Plus, the summer is going to be here very soon and it's gonna get HOT. Great assessment, and I'm glad I noticed the radiator had a funky color before too much longer. So since you can actually see and feel the hoses, make your own judgement on that one.Įither way, any new radiator in a storm is the rule of thumb here. I did mine although afterwards I realized there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hoses that were in there. Others will tell you to replace the 8 hoses too. I did it to save draining the coolant again later. Quite the margin there.Īs long as you are removing the radiator anyway, you might just replace your thermostat with the OEM thermostat just as a precaution. I can only report that instead of results higher than 230 degrees in the summer heat here, my coolant temperature NEVER goes above 208 degrees. I am not saying this comparison with other aluminum radiators made for the Miata is necessarily the same. It was really amazing to see the results. Those trucks already had dual row radiators, so the idea was to see if a Mishimoto substitute worked better. I also just saw an article on Mishimoto radiators as used for newer Ford hard working pick up F150 pickup trucks. The Mishimoto fits right in with no extra work and the fan shroud makes the whole thing actually less thick (depth) than OEM, which gives you an advantage of doing other work easily in front of the engine without actually removing the radiator or fans. ![]() So the dual row aluminum is a good choice for you. Temperature control leads to longer engine life, less worry about things in the cooling system go wrong (meaning no frying your engine in minutes) even if you don't live in a hotter area of the country. They start around $30 including the software for your phone. ![]() ![]() You need an OBD scanner/logger of some type to actually read the temperatures as you drive. I can tell you there is a distinct cooling performance that is totally noticeable. The TYC is a great, inexpensive alternative.īut I chose the Mishimoto dual row as my replacement along with their fan shroud. Any color other than shiny black means the radiator should be replaced as soon as possible.
